Film Label Case Study

Background

Prior to working with Inland Label & Marketing Services, a regional natural juice company was labeling its refrigerated products with pressure sensitive labels. Each label required up to 14 different spot colors in order to produce the vibrant colors that had become part of the company's brand identity.

Due to the high cost of the pressure sensitive labels, the company decided to evaluate options for reducing label costs without sacrificing their brand identity. In addition, the new beverage bottle labels had to maintain the ability to withstand the rigors of refrigerated transportation.

Inland's Solution

Inland developed a solution that changed the labeling application from a 3-panel, pressure sensitive label to a 4-panel, full wrap OPP film label. Inland's beverage bottle labeling experts also recommended reproducing the wide variety of spot colors with hexachrome 6 color process inks. This strategy provided the economics of combining multiple beverage bottle label designs on one press form, while maintaining the vibrant, eye-catching colors and graphics.

Inland and the client also selected the appropriate BOPP label substrate and aqueous coating for the new film labels. The new substrate and coating delivered maximum wet rub resistance, which protected the labels from label-to-label contact during packaging and distribution.

Result

Inland's overall film label solution reduced the client's label costs by 30 percent. These savings were even more impressive when considering the fact that the labels increased in size by 25 percent from a 3-panel to 4-panel film label. The client's brand is now recognized nationally as a premium natural juice.
